Punctuation is our friend

In a sentence, the punctuation marks add meaning, structure and space to the creativity of the words. This scaffolding gives security, room to digest and embrace the meaning. It gives power to choose how we respond to the words.

In fact, punctuation allows room to connect with the intention of the sentence’s author, who took the trouble to deliver the sentence to see where, what and how others might resonate with her words.

We all have punctuation points in our daily lives as we go along, we may not notice them and embrace them for the gifts that they provide.

“Coming to quiet” Just being yourself is enough

What a lovely explanation of AT’s “coming to quiet”. As applied to our relationship with our horses. An inspiring article.

“And some of us try it their way. We listen to their calming signals. When they avert their eyes and look away, they’re telling us that we can be less aggressive; that they mean us no harm. Listen to them. Take the cue, breathe slower, and turn your body noise down. Then wait. Ask for nothing. Give nothing. Be still and breathe with empty hands. You are enough just as you are.”

Radio Interview with Charlie Holles – explaining AT to a wider audience.

Translating an experience of Alexander lessons into words makes me feel that I am painting in black and white, but Charlie’s skilful interviewing brings out the essence of the Technique in an easy-to-listen way.  Enjoy!

Enjoying spreading the word at Your Horse Live

It was a very enlivening experience to offer taster sessions of Alexander  hands on over both days at Your Horse Live.  What a treat to be able to talk to so many interesting people, riders and non believers alike.  Between us, our team of AT teachers gave over 14 hours of hands on experience to those that came to our stand.  Here are some of the comments they made after their taster sessions:

“Fascinating the amount of tension I hold and how easily this technique helps release it!”

“Feeling very chilled now and very relaxed.  I can see how it would help with riding.”

“Completely different to anything I have tried before, so different to yoga but just as relaxing.  It was the complete lack of force that amazed me!”

Go with the flow?

Yesterday started with great promise to be very productive and satisfying, but in digging in to get the office work done, I didn’t pay attention to various warnings signs, before I started to feel off par.  Yes, getting some fresh air would have been a good idea, and not skipping lunch might have also feed my mind as well as my grumbling tummy.  Oh well, it is a fresh start today, and after a hearty breakfast, and a more balanced attitude to “getting on”  might bring good results without provoking my system to tell me I have been overdoing it.

I will celebrate my system for keeping me clear on the things that help, and where end-gaining and corner cutting does not – what will today bring?  Let’s see!
